Mining Methane Abatement Solutions

During the process of coal mining, methane gas which is trapped in coal seams can be released, posing safety and environmental risks. This is often referred to as waste coal mine gas, which must be captured by drainage and ventilation systems and brought to the surface.

Traditionally destroyed via flares or subject to controlled release, this waste product is now able to be used as fuel for power generation – creating reliable and sustainable energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating its environmental impact.

In partnership with Xcoal Energy and Resources, LMS is pleased to be a major shareholder of Carbon Logica – a company offering carbon abatement solutions to the mining industry, including utilisation of waste coal mine gas.

Established in 2022, the management team within Carbon Logica have proudly developed and operated the majority of Australia’s waste coal mine gas generation fleet, consisting of approximately 300 megawatts (MW) across NSW and QLD. This includes the Grosvenor, Moranbah North, Grasstree, Appin and Okay North power stations.

Carbon Logica works with individual sites to identify the best power generating options that fit current and future electrical needs. Please visit Carbon Logica’s website for more information.
